Mundaring is right on city’s doorstep, an easy
40 minute drive from the centre of Perth. From Roe Highway follow the Great Eastern Highway east, bypassing
Midland, and as you begin the climb up Greenmount Hill you feel the change in
the air!
Take the turn to John Forrest National Park (the
oldest gazetted national park in Western Australia) via Park Road which leads
onto Tourist Drive 201 and wind your way through the park then back out onto the
Highway.
Shire of Mundaring is rich in history, art and
natural attractions, it is a wonderful area for bush walking and cycling. The
Munda Biddi Trail starts here, and the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail stretches
throughout through the shire.
There are pubs, cafes and galleries, granite outcrops
with spectacular views, five national parks, the amazing engineering feat that
is Mundaring Weir, the tranquil waters of Lake Leschenaultia and some lovely
wineries too! Wildflowers and wildlife abound, the bird life is stunning – red
tailed black cockatoos, parrots galore, blue wrens and much more.
Make time to call into Mundaring Visitor Centre,
which you will find in the Old School built in 1907. Here you can pick up maps,
brochures and information on walk trails, things to do, vineyards, cafes and
studios hidden away from the main road.
Complete your circuit by returning via Mundaring Weir
Road to Kalamunda (via Tourist Drive 207), down the ZigZag Scenic Drive onto Roe
Highway, or, better still, consider staying overnight!

motel or perhaps a charming bed and breakfast, self-contained cottage or
chalet.
