Mundaring
the Heart of the Perth Hills!
The Shire of Mundaring covers an area of 644 sq.
kms and one third of its total area is State Forest. Our villages
are steeped in
a rich
history, closely linked by the old railway line that is now the
fabulous Railway Reserves Heritage Trail stretching some
70kms through
the shire. The amazing engineering feat that is the Mundaring Weir
with the water pipeline to the Eastern Goldfields
region
is also here.
The Munda Biddi Bike Trail starts in the town of Mundaring, and
there are also several other cycling trails too. We have a terrific
range of accommodation on offer; we have fine food and award winning
restaurants, wineries, arts and wildlife. The Shire is also home
to the Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuary, the Chidlow Marsupial Hospital
and the Perth Hills National Parks Centre.
Tourism is a vibrant and growing part of the region, with nature
based activities and facilities a priority. We offer the opportunity
to get away from the hustle and bustle without the long drive;
we are just 40 minutes from the CBD. So, come on up the Great Eastern
Highway, over the Greenmount Hill and into the tranquil forest
environment that is Mundaring, the Heart
of the Hills.
